Sant Bani Starts School Year with Service

SANBORNTON - Sant Bani students wrapped up their first week of school with a day devoted to service. Service is integrated throughout the School’s curriculum, and is a cornerstone of its program. After an all-school gathering, students broke into mixed-age groups where older children shared their service experiences with younger children; later, individual classes brainstormed service projects that they would like to get involved with in the upcoming year.

After recess, teachers and students spent time doing service on campus, from harvesting and weeding the school’s organic garden to setting up the new technology center in the Library. After a picnic lunch, the entire school traveled to Wellington State Park to help with grounds maintenance before finishing the afternoon with swimming and playing on the beach. Head of School Kent Bicknell summed up the experience: “After a rainy night, the skies cleared and we came together work, learn and play. Many hands make light work--and we were able to make a difference on our own campus and also at Wellington. It was a pretty magical day!”
