Students Attend Connecting for Change 2014

Sanbornton, NH -- Eight Sant Bani students have been awarded scholarships to attend the 10th annual Connecting for Change conference in New Bedford, MA. Connecting for Change is a solutions-based gathering that brings together a diverse audience to create deep and positive change in their communities. Sant Bani students will join over 3,000 participants from over 20 states. Conference topics will include food and farming, policy, innovative tech and design, health and healing, green business, indigenous knowledge, environmental and social justice, women and youth empowerment, impact investing, spirituality and sustainability. Students will have the opportunity to learn about building action plans for school campuses, learning about the five elements of climate change, launching a “green dream,” and starting a climate action group from scratch.

This trip is happening on the heels of Sant Bani School’s Harvest to Table event that took place Wednesday, October 22. The school-wide feast, comprised entirely of food grown on and near Sant Bani’s campus, fed all 225 members of the Sant Bani Community and was a highlight of the School’s year-long theme of sustainability. Students learned about the positive environmental impact of local food consumption while strengthening their sense of place and connection to the land. At this event, guest speaker Rosi Kerr, Director of Sustainability at Dartmouth College, told students that “you will make a difference in this world… you need to think about how your actions, even ones as simple as food choices, have a global effect on people and the environment.” At the Connecting for Change conference, students will learn how to help make a difference at Sant Bani School and their communities.
